Q. Can you apply a water-based product, like ZAR® Interior Water Base Poly Crystal Clear or ZAR® Interior Oil Modified Urethane Poly OMU, over an oil-based one like ZAR® Interior Oil Base Poly?
A. Yes, but first you’ll need to scuff up the surface. Simply sand the surface with sandpaper (minimum 120 grit) prior to application.
Q. Can you use exterior polyurethane indoors?
A. In general, the answer is no. When applied indoors, the product tends to acquire a whitish look. The exception? Feel free to use exterior polyurethane on window sills that receive direct sunlight.
Q: Can ZAR Polyurethanes be used over paint?
A: Our ZAR Polyurethanes are best applied to bare wood or over a cured wood stain. They are not designed for use over paint.
Q: Do I need to sand between coats of ZAR Polyurethane?
A: Sanding is not required, but if desired a light scuff with 220 grit sandpaper can help to promote intercoat adhesion.
Q: Can ZAR Stain or ZAR Polyurethane be applied over a lacquer or shellac?
A: No, a lacquer or shellac must be fully removed.
Q: How can I find older, retired ZAR stain colors no longer produced?
A: The participating ZAR retailer can tint from our ZAR 145 Color Matcher Tint Base. For more information on retailers, please head to our website or give us a call.
Q: Can ZAR Interior Wood Stain be used on exterior surfaces?
A: Yes it can be used on exterior vertical surfaces, and it must be top coated with our ZAR Exterior Polyurethanes for protection.
